It's (Almost) Here!
And my paid subs get the sneak-peek first because this is one huge file to process 🤣
Hi Book Family,
If you’re reading this, and I’m assuming it’s not pirated somehow, this is my substack that contains the prologue of Slumbering, from The Starlight Chronicles, in its Graphic Novel form.
If enough people are interested and enough people buy it, I’m hoping to get all the pages colored one day, so if you’d like that — and I know I would! — PLEASE encourage your friends to check it out, too! I need the money to do this 🤣
I wrote this series as I was in the last year of high school — way, way back in the 00s, so Hamilton is Tony Stark before Tony Stark was more mainstream. And he’s in high school, and not so much of an inventor so much as a politician-in-training.
Hamilton is a narcissist who doesn’t understand what it is to struggle outside of himself, and sacrificing his peace, comfort, and affluence is really antithetical to his nature. BUT he looks good doing it, and that’s enough to get him started. 🤣 Starry Knight and Elysian keep pushing him to do better, too, though their efforts and methods are both very strange and nearly opposite from each other.
I wrote the series for many reasons, but …
1 ) It is appropriate for teenagers. My Hawaiian princess cousin actually taught this book series to her 6-8 English classes, she loved it (or just me) that much!
2 ) It’s meant to be full of sarcasm and irony. Hamilton is not likeable until book 2, but I encourage you to enjoy the terrors he has to face in Book 1.
3 ) This was my first full-length series. I am enormously proud of it, even if some parts of it have aged surprisingly (not poorly, per se, but more … interestingly.)
4 ) Hamilton is much better when you can see how pretty he is. He is the shockingly handsome jerk, and because he is so gorgeous, smart, and talented, people are willing to forgive him for his shortcomings. And he is smart enough to know this about himself and use this to his advantage.
5 ) He does grow up. That’s the biggest thing I can say that I love about this series. I love that he’s a self-centered jerk and he has to learn how to love other people, and how he must learn to deal with how extraordinarily painful that can be. His character has become one of my favorites because he shows this transformation so brutally and realistically.
It’s important to remember, no matter what, people can change, and they often do. Whether it is for better or for worse, that’s a different story, but even the worst person you know can be better than he or she is in time, and I think that’s an extremely hopeful sentiment.
If you’re not a paid sub (AND WHY NOT??), you can still check out the first book and the rest of the series here on Amazon or here on other platforms.
I think that’s all the important things here. Enjoy!
All the best,
CJ
